Description
DVB-device is a hardware-software complex. It means that to fulfill the assigned task PCB and software are used. The core of software comprises of drivers.
Many users consider drivers to be nothing more than a “configuration file” owing to which the computer “sees” a device. In other words it occurs in the following way: a user inserted the device, started a computer, operational system showed a message “A new device is found”. Within this time operational system does not “see” a device and cannot work with it until a user shows the way to the “configuration file” called “driver”.
Actually driver is not a “configuration file” for a device but the program which operates with DVB-devices (including chips) at the lowest level. All the latest DVB-cards of household purpose have a characteristic of “program processing of the flow”. That means that the latest DVB-cards accept the data (i.e. traffic flow PCI, PCI-E, USB) from a satellite and transfer it to the computer memory (through interface of PCI, PCI-E, and USB). The main processing of this data is fulfilled by a program of the driver.
It is the drivers what processes the satellite flow using operational system resources (CP, memory, the installed software, codecs etc.). The more qualitative drivers the more qualitative DVB-card will work with transponders. It depends on the quality of drivers whether DVB-card will catch the signal, whether it will hold it taking into consideration that transponder frequency changes etc.
Therefore the quality of work of DVB-card is conditioned to a large extent not only by the quality of hardware itself but also by the quality of drivers and related software.
