PTG Engine

Description

DVB-device is a hardware-software complex. It means that to fulfill the assigned task PCB and software are used. The core of software comprises of drivers.

Many users consider drivers to be nothing more than a “configuration file” owing to which the computer “sees” a device. In other words it occurs in the following way: a user inserted the device, started a computer, operational system showed a message “A new device is found”. Within this time operational system does not “see” a device and cannot work with it until a user shows the way to the “configuration file” called “driver”.

Actually driver is not a “configuration file” for a device but the program which operates with DVB-devices (including chips) at the lowest level. All the latest DVB-cards of household purpose have a characteristic of “program processing of the flow”.  That means that the latest DVB-cards accept the data (i.e. traffic flow PCI, PCI-E, USB) from a satellite and transfer it to the computer memory (through interface of PCI, PCI-E, and USB). The main processing of this data is fulfilled by a program of the driver.
It is the drivers what processes the satellite flow using operational system resources (CP, memory, the installed software, codecs etc.). The more qualitative drivers the more qualitative DVB-card will work with transponders. It depends on the quality of drivers whether DVB-card will catch the signal, whether it will hold it taking into consideration that transponder frequency changes etc.  
Therefore the quality of work of DVB-card is conditioned to a large extent not only by the quality of hardware itself but also by the quality of drivers and related software.

Marketing approach implies that not the product itself but the function it fulfills is required by the client. And it is important to understand what is being sold: drills or wall holes that are so much needed to the client.

Modules of PTG Engine

The core of PTG Engine consists of drivers. Second largest program is Prof IP DATA that receives failure-free satellite Internet during unlimited period of time.

Prof Tuners Group recommends using one of the following programs as a program for receiving satellite television: ALTDVB, DVBDream and DVBViewer. Moreover efforts of PTG Engine developers are directed not towards development of the programs themselves but towards development of modules of these programs.

The most important criteria that are on for choosing these programs are: stability and reliability of work during unlimited period of time, economy of user system resources. If new programs satisfying these principles appear they will be obligatory added to the list of recommended ones and PTG Engine will be as fast as possible and as qualitative as possible integrated with these programs. It means that special modules will appear, changes in drivers will be made.

Scheme of PTG Engine main modules

At present PTG Engine is being supplied with Prof Red Series DVB-S 6200 PCI, Prof Red Series DVB-S2 7300 PCI, Prof Revolution DVB-S2 7301 PCI, Prof Revolution DVB-S2 7500 USB, Prof Revolution DVB-S2 8000 PCI-E, and Prof Luxury CI.

PTG Engine is developed in the development center of Prof Tuners Group in Hamburg (Germany). DVB-S/S2 cards Prof with PTG Engine is being tested on European satellites Astra, Hotbird, Sirius and others.
